Piper Pond / Lake Juanita

Shown below are descriptions of Piper Pond also known as Lake Juanita from books in the 1900 time period.

Piper Pond was also called Lake Juanita. In some early publication both names are mentioned as if they are different places but they both refer to what is now Piper Pond. Here is an ad from "In The Maine Woods Guide Book for Sportsman" 1900. The book was put out by the Bangor and Aroostook RR Company.

Thompson, W. M. (1900) In the Maine Woods. United States: Bangor and Aroostook Railroad.

The distances are from the railroad stations. The book also list the fish to be had: trout, togue, pickerel, and white perch.

Origins of "Piper"

We are not sure where the name Piper came from but some early settlers were named Piper.

The town of Abbot was incorporated January 30, 1827.
